Emily Tipton is co-founder and beer engineer at Boxing Rock Brewing Company. Since Boxing Rock opened in 2013, her job has involved everything it takes to brew craft beer and run a small business, from milling grain to brewing, bottling beer, pouring beer samples and running the payroll. She is a chemical engineer, who graduated from the University of Alberta in 1999 and has experience in project management sustainable development and facilitation. She worked as an engineer in Canada, Europe and Asia before moving to rural Nova Scotia ten years ago where she became a municipal planner, engineer and development coordinator.
Building a craft brewery in Shelburne was what she figured would be the most fun she could have applying her engineering skills to creating a sustainable rural business, and a new career path for herself in the community she loves. Emily is a very active community member and advocate for entrepreneurship and import replacement as key pieces of rural economic development. She’s also a proud hockey mom, and President of the Craft Brewers Association of Nova Scotia.
