August 4, 2010 – Toronto, ON: TAPS Media, parent company of TAPS The Beer Magazine, is pleased to announce the dates for judging the 8th annual Canadian Brewing Awards.
The judging, which is sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP), is set to take place in Toronto on September 11-12 and will feature beers from all over Canada. The call for entries has just recently gone out to breweries both large and small, throughout the nation, with an August 12th entry form submission deadline. Last year’s Canadian Brewing Awards were the largest to date with over 290 products entered from over 40 breweries and the 2010 competition is expected to attract well over 320 beers from Canada’s growing brewing industry.
The gala and Canadian Brewing Awards medal presentation will take place in Toronto on September 24, 2010 during Toronto’s first ever Beer Week (September 20-26) at a location to be announced closer to the date of the event.
The Canadian Brewing Awards have emerged as the premiere competition for judging the quality of Canadian brewed beer. The contest is the only truly national competition that invites breweries of all sizes from across the country to compete in a blind tasting to see who brews the best beer in 31 style categories.
About the Canadian Brewing Awards
A Canadian Brewing Award medal is now a widely recognized symbol of brewing excellence in Canada. A panel of approximately 20 Certified Beer Judges (BJCP), consider five criteria: aroma, appearance, flavour, mouth-feel, and overall impression. A maximum of fifty points can be attained.
The competition also serves as an important vehicle for informing the Canadian beer-drinking public about the variety of and quality of commercially available beers throughout the land. Every year the competition attracts new entries from small startup breweries, to the largest of the large, who are dedicated to carefully crafting their product.

TAPS Media, the parent company of TAPS: Canada’s Beer Magazine and the Canadian Brewing Awards (CBAs) are currently working on a new website, the one you’re on right now. We are taking our time, making sure we get it right this time around.
You will be able to find the lists of past winners under the 2007, 2008, and 2009 CBA pages. Print them off, share with friends, try drinking every beer that made the list.
For all you brewers and brewery representatives out there who are all wondering when the CBAs will be taking place this year, please rest assured that you will be contacted in due time with plenty of time to get organized. I should mention that it would appear that judging will most likely take place in September….. but I’ll get back to you on that.
And finally, it should be pointed out to our friends in Quebec that we are working hard to get the CBA documentation translated into French, which we’ll hopefully have in hand when we get to Mondial dè la Biere.
